The Bridge House is now a free house,so the dull McMullens beers have been replaced by........dull national brands with Doom Bar and GK IPA available on my visit .The pub interior also hasn't changed with two very distict bars, the public to the left with a pool table and darts, the carpeted lounge to the right with a dog leg interior and lots of old boy regulars who pertch on the bar stools. There was a tv in here screening World Cup games. The decor is a bit worn, but at least each bar still retains a tiled fireplace. The husband and wife team who run the pub have put a lot of effort in,and my half was topped up without having to ask.On the food front, thai dishes are available between £7 -£8,while a short pub grub menu plus specials come in at £6 -£12 for mains.Off the lounge there is a servery for carveries.
Built in the 1930's as part of the ribbon development of this side of Hertford, the pub is opposite Hertford North and will attact commuters, but the locals seem to hold sway and keep a beady eye on strangers. There is not enough of interest for the real ale buff, but the pub serves a purpose.

Traditional two room set up with a public bar dominated by a pool table and comfortable but not exactly smart saloon bar. But the best features of this pub is the spacious outside drinking area to the front with plenty of bench table seating which catches the afternoon sun and its close proximity (virtually opposite ) to Hertford North train station.
Another McMullens house, of which there are quite a few in the area, and usually two McMullen’s ales are available.
So, nothing special, but very convenient for a quick pint if you’ve just missed the train to London.

The main bar was closed during my visit at 22:45, but the sports bar that houses a pool table and dartboard was open. I waited at the bar for a minute or so for some service before turning to the old boy sitting at the bar and asking if it was still open. He pointed to a clock that was chalked onto the wall that read 00:15 and said that it was always open. Thankfully the manager turned up to save me from the madness and I grabbed a nice pint of Guinness and sat in the corner whilst I waited for my train.
Whilst waiting I spotted the ubiquitous Hertford AK and Country so assumed that the rest of the selection in the main bar is standard draught.
This is a big Mcmullen pub opposite the station and the public bar smells of ketchup. When I revisit Hertford I will make sure that I venture into this place again before shutdown.
