Komakino . left this review about The Queens Head
Situated on Lawn Lane, just off Hemel's "Magic Roundabout" and sandwiched between fast food establishments, The Queens Head is very much a local's boozer, as was evinced by a clutch of regulars who had commandeered the generous patio area out front. Internally, there's a single bar which serves a staple-shaped room, housing various tables and chairs, and banquette seating in both bay windows. An area with a pool table is located behind the bar, accessible to the right-hand side and the floor is carpeted, with the exception of the pool area and a small strip in front of the bar. There was no real ale available on my visit (two pump clips had been reversed), so the fallback option of a pint of Guinness it was (£4), although they did have Worthington's Creamflow on keg. A TV screen was showing The Great British Bake Off to no-one in particular, whilst loud 80s music blared out (Def Leppard and The Human League, anyone?) A number of framed photos adorned the walls, with several Help For Heroes certificates on display above the bar, along with a framed football shirt (Queens Head FC) and a ceramic poppy from the 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' installation at the Tower of London. I quite enjoyed this place - it seems to be ticking over, so something's being done right here, and to be fair, it's a fair schlep out of town, so it's captured the market in this location - but with some real ale and a decision over TV or music (not both at the same time please) would see a higher score.
