The Fisheries is another example of a modern wood décor McMullens house with more of a focus on the food service. It’s a fairly large pub situated on the Watford Road half way between Elstree and Bushey, with an outside terrace area overlooking the Aldenham Reservoir opposite.
Inside it is a modern décor with a central bar and the left side being more the traditional pub area with comfortable but limited sofas and chairs , and then the entire right hand side is a light wood panelled eating area. This restaurant section is themed with old style fish pictures to at least give it a bit of character.
We did choose to eat here and found the food to be very good and the service to be attentive The menu is slightly more towards Gastro than Toby Inn but not enough to be pretentious and overpriced.
The beer in not particularly inspiring being the usual McMullens fare but couldn’t complain about my pint of AK which was in good condition.
But the outside terrace is one of this pubs main positives , as it makes the most of its location and I can think of a lot worse places to sit and have a pint, than on the outside benches watching the dingy sailors on the reservoir opposite.
