Great old traditional pub. Decent outdoor space. The service was very friendly. Full range of Wye Valley beers on including a monthly special in the form of Shaka! I went for that as it was new to me and it was excellent.
Well worth a visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chequers

Excellent old pub with two small bars separated by a central servery plus a lounge / dining room at the back. All parts lie under low, exposed timber beam ceilings and are very traditionally furnished and decorated. Side patio garden. As a Wye Valley Brewery house, I found the Bitter, HPA, Butty Bach and Wholesome Stout (£2.50 between 17:00 and 19:00) available from the bank of six handpumps on each counter. Well worth a visit.

This 16th century timber framed Inn is the Wye Valley Brewery's oldest pub. There were 6 cask beers on that were all Wye Valley stuff and found the stout top notch. Cannot add much to the previous comments but would certainly call in again if in the area.

There was some building work going on here at the time of my recent visit, and the outdoor seating had disappeared, perhaps temporarily, to provide access to the builders. Inside there's not much changed since my previous visit, except that the beer was now exclusively from Wye Valley brewery, with six of their beers available, plus a real cider. All the beers were priced at just £2.50/pint on weekdays between 5pm and 7pm. This would be a really nice pub if it were not for the ghastly pop music glooping out of loudspeakers in every corner. Do people like this stuff or are they just inured to it?

One of Leominster's many very ancient buildings, the Chequers is a delightful locals pub with chequered tiling on the floor and sagging beams held up by a substantial metal strut. The front bar is quite small, with not a lot of seating and room for only four hand pumps - the contents of the additional pumps in the lounge at the back (on this occasion Bateman's Victory Ale and Wychwood Hobgoblin) are advertised by additional pump clips on display. As well as a cider, there were three ales: Wye Valley Butty Bach and HPA, plus the excellent Hobsons Best Bitter, which was in superb condition.

There's a yard to the side where a couple of "temporary" smokers shelters have been set up, with soft furnishings and heaters. Otherwise the pub appears to be unspoilt, and I regretted not having more time to spend here.

Since Glynn took over this pub, he has vastly improved everything, from good quality beer, a fantastic beer garden with covers and heaters, and a new restaurant. This is now "THE" pub in Leominster. Well done Glynn
