Weird place. It has a tidy position on the river but the interior is small, seems like a mid-2000s IKEA refit which looks terribly dated, it is getting shabby and the walls are painted the colour of hangover wee. Known locally for the garden view of the cathedral and river which, in truth, isn't much cop as there’s a public path running through it so you can’t really relax. Three pumps with two cask, Butcombe Haka and Wye Valley Hopfather (NBSS 2), served by a jovial mature barkeep. Feels like much more could be done here.

Slightly down at heel exterior and nothing much to remember internally - apart from the heating being on full blast on the first day of spring. Single real ale - Wye Valley Hopfather in reasonable condition.

What elevates the pub is the fine (small) riverside terrace that has the best views of the cathedral over the river.

A glorious spot for a drink.
