Update April 2010 Thought due for a revisit and a fuller [no pun intended] picture, has two bars, and a dining area. One bar is the standard Public, other is Saloon, comfy chairs etc
Due to age of building may not be wheelchair friendly, loo is up steps for instance, but as it is also a hotel no doubt arrangements could be made
Seems to have had a mini makeover since my last visit, cleaner, brighter and less creaky now
Usual Fullers range, London Pride, HSB, ESB etc, but all well kept [casque marked pub]I stuck to HSB, and it was as good as last time
Food still available, a few regulars came in & ordered, so seems to be popular choice
May 2008 After my Red Lion experience I fancied a decent pint in a real pub
As this pub is the heart of ex Gales brewery, next door in fact, the beers were of course all Fullers / Gales
I had HSB, and very nice it was, relaxed sort of place at lunchtime, they do food but I never tried it
May not suit all, as the pub shows it's age of 400 years, creaky floors etc, but it is part of our heritage
Result, if in Horndean, ignore the Red Lion, use this one or Colonial Bar if you want real beer & people
