The nicely tiled entrance is in a side street, it looks a totally different place from the main frontage next to Aspley House. The main bar is smaller than the raised room at the front of the property that didn't seem to be in use on my visit. Slightly time warped the carpeted interior had Gold flock wallpaper, etched glass windows and a possibly inter war bar. Two beers from three handles, Bowman Swift One and Hop Back Crop Circle.
A nice little locals pub, something the Portsmouth area does well.

A hidden gem, this Victorian terrace pub is just off the main drag, but most people – like, it appears, time - pass it by, not knowing it’s there. There is a narrow glazed tile frontage with etched windows on the Netley Road entrance side, while inside is a carpeted main bar and a raised dining area to the rear which spreads into a large house next door. They host live music acts, and part of the bar is decorated with music-based murals and a collection of instruments. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the locals likewise, and dogs are very welcome too. The jukebox was rooted in the 1980s. Two ales on – I had a pint of Ringwood Best which was in perfect condition. This is a good backstreet boozer, well worth seeking out for its beer and hospitality.
