A better-than-average back street local in a splendid Georgian house, whose single T-shaped bar has rambled a bit through the building over the years. The bar is floorboarded and rather pleasant. It has a pool table in one leg of the T, while the other is raised and used as a dining area. There is also a repro late-Victorian fireplace. The staff were very welcoming, while the locals were friendly and convivial. Apart from the pool, entertainment was provided by gaming machines and a chess/draughts table, while the jukebox was quite tolerable. Three ales on, Summer Lightning, which tasted a but strange but was still quite drinkable, Doombar and Landlord, which were predictably good. Happy to visit any time and include in a crawl.

One large bar, larger than life landlord, nice place & nice well kept beers from Downton Brewery, serves food as well
Outdoor seating area in front, ideal for those long summer days with a long liquid lunch
The customers, when I visited, were the "hug & kisses" type, which is a nice change from some pubs pikeys & chavs
