This historic freehouse is well described by Komakino, below. The bar was fairly uncomfortable, the muzak was extremely naff and the staff were not really that welcoming. Ales on were Doombar, Razorback and Fullers Gales HSB, all in fair condition. Food was expensive and not really good enough to justify the price. It’s worth finding if you’re staying in the Port Hamble marina, but I’m not sure I’d make the effort to find it from landside.

Located on Hamble's cobbled, winding, one-way High Street and named after Nelson's flagship, this isn't without it's foibles (naff muzak), but it has a part-cosy air, and there's plenty of nautical paraphernalia as you'd imagine, including a framed selection of nautical knots, photos of the QE2 and a framed display about the disastrous 1979 Fastnet Race. Staple-shaped internally, the area to the left is a small, cosy carpeted area, with bar ahead to the right with a half-wooded, half-flagstone floor, with the room bending around to the right of the bar where a small flight of stairs lead to a larger, main dining area which wraps behind the bar. Four ales were on the go, including Sharp's Doom Bar, Fuller's HSB, Ringwood Razorback and Otter Over the Bar, which was in excellent shape at a reasonable £1.75 for a half. The food menu is pub-grubby and perhaps some embellishment on its cosiness would make this a decent rival to the nearby Whyte Hart.
