E TA left this review about The Old Ship
A 16th Century roadside pub with plenty of character. The building itself is interesting architecturally, with many small areas conjoined yet still retaining a degree of privacy. There is a large open fire in the main bar area which provides warmth and a talking point, while a more modern extension at the back holds what appears to be a dining room. There is a small car park at the side and a paved garden at the front which, for some reason, has an old GPO telephone box. The tiled floors are uneven and on various levels. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Only two ales on, Pride and HSB, the latter in excellent condition (though clearly not as good as the original). |Food is also available at an average price for the area, and while we didn’t eat, it looked OK. I’d be very happy to come back here next time I’m passing, maybe combining it with a visit to the Jolly Sailor over the river.
