A pub that I presume is Greene King but there’s little branding in evidence. Has upmarket pretensions (like the chilled electronica on the stereo which would have been right at home in a hipster joint in London or Shoreditch) but nonetheless has a plethora of fruit machines and on my visit the interior was festooned with Halloween tat. L shaped layout, quite narrow by the bar and consequently not much seating. A further large room beyond is for diners but only had a couple of people in it; given reviews elsewhere I can understand why. Under the spooky tat, the interior is fairly well done (though wear and tear is taking its toll) and the impressive amount of original windows give the place a decent feel alongside the wood parquet flooring. Two ales at the bar; GK IPA and a warm but serviceable Nottingham EPA that had a faint GK undertone (someone didn’t flush the pipes…), served up by a friendly barmaid. Train station area Ascot has an uninspiring set of pubs; this is probably the best of them.
