E TA left this review about The Claremont
A Georgian terrace pub in an elevated position with some great views around. You enter from street level, into a single long bar formed from three smaller rooms. A central pillar remains, though the fireplaces are in the rooms’ corners; one of these has an early cast iron insert. The floor is a mixture of parquet and tiling. The furniture is Spartan, most of the tables already reserved early in the evening, but timings were written on them so you knew where you could sit for a brief visit. Down the stairs at the right is a second bar, smaller and more comfortable; the toilets are also at this level. On the left is a small enclosed terraced outside area. Food is available, pizzas being their speciality and being available for takeaway. There were a couple of TV screens showing live football. Two real ales on draft, Twisted’s Urban Legend and Bass. Craft offerings were Camden Hells, Laine’s Source, Fader and Neck Oil, plus there was a bank of keg offerings including a premium lager. There was a good local feel to the pub, and we were well looked after by the staff. It’s a bit off the main road and up a steep hill, but I’d be happy to come back if in the area.
