A traditional Victorian back street pub which hasn't been developed and as kept its original floor plan. There is a small spit-and-sawdust public bar entered from the corner, while a larger saloon bar more appropriate for families is at the side, leading to a rather scruffy garden area which includes a covered smoking area. It feels dated and battered, though once inside it's quite welcoming. You need a robust sense of humour to appreciate this pub. The barmaid was certainly a lively character, while the locals were welcoming though happy to engage in some fairly earthy banter. They have a community focus, offering regular meat raffles, karaoke evenings and live bands. There were TV screens showing live football in both bars when we visited. Two real ales on draft, Fullers HSB and Flack's Double Drop, both in fair condition. The keg options were Fosters, 1664, Guinness, Amstel, Thatcher's Gold and Inch's. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but it's fine for a quick visit.
