Still owned by Harveys and this is their furthest outpost – the nearest Harveys pub to this is the Royal Oak in Borough! Eight years on and this place has been poshed-up beyond recognition. What it has lost in original alehouse charm has – in part – been made up for by a very tasteful refit that retains a decent amount of pub character. Nice rear garden with fruiting vines, though stupidly access appears to be through a fire exit door which promptly shuts and locks itself behind you, so I had to holler to be let back in as all other exits were locked. Nine pumps, four Harveys on (a lot of doubling-up); IPA, Armada (good), Olympia and Sussex Best. Enjoyable and I’d make a point of getting back here again in less than 8 years next time!

Nice little two-bar pub 15 minutes walk away from Sunningdale station in the picturesque Sunningdale Village, opposite the church. It has the Harveys ale range on offer which were all in good form when I first visited (the Best and Mild in particular were excellent) but standards seem to have slipped a bit since then. Prices are sensible. The locals can be a bit gruff which might put people off a bit. Also has a pool table and clean toilets. Be sure to say hello to pub dog Rosie who looks to have been there as long as the place itself; a very friendly little hound who likes a tickle behind the ears. Rated 6
