A large Victorian local which has been left unscathed by nearby development. There is a small car park at one side, and there is a small garden with a smoking terrace. The bars have been knocked through to form a single large bar, a concrete beam indicating the original layout. The bar houses dartboards, a pool table and gaming machines for entertainment. The carpet in the bar is a disconcertingly garish stripey pattern and there is an original fireplace at one end. The jukebox was too loud for conversation to be enjoyable. There is an imposing army of lager pumps on the bar facing you as you walk in, almost hiding the solitary ale on draft, Doombar, which was over-chilled and not that enjoyable. OK as a local, I suppose, but unless you're an aficionado of cold megakeg lager, I wouldn't make the effort when there are better ale pubs nearby.

Oddly interesting - much to look at in the way of memorabilia, delightful bar staff and quaint opening hours. Worth a visit and if you're in luck it'll be open. Hmmm ....beer's good though.
