A very nice 17th Century traditional town local with previous GBG entries. There is a single long bar at the front which has tables for diners and a few barstools for ale lovers. There is a restaurant area at the back which rather lacks atmosphere with its parquet floor and brick fireplace. I imagine though that it gets a lot better on their monthly live music nights. It tries to style itself as a gastro but the food isn’t in the right league for that – it’s more pub grub than fine dining. The real strength of this piub is its ale. There were 5 pumps on the bar and a boxed cider. One pump was dry, the others were pouring Palmer’s IPA, Flowerpots, Belle Vue and Dandelion Just Looking. It was welcoming, comfortable and the ale was good, and I’d be very happy to come back here.
