A traditional roadside freehouse consisting of a large timber boarded house with a garden but no car park. Inside, there are two bright, airy bars. The larger bar has a tiled floor, gaming machines and a fairly loud, but friendly, atmosphere. It has a rather horrible 1060s brick fireplace but is otherwise quite pleasantly decorated. The second, smaller bar is more of a saloon, with a mostly-carpeted floor and has what looks like an erly Victorian fireplace with a log fire in it. Both bars have TV screens showing live sports matches, and there is free WiFI. Live music and quiz nights are advertised, and they do freshly cooked food, possibly a cut above the normal bar food offerings. The landlord was a bit offhand, but the locals seemed decent enough. There was the usual array of megakeg on tap, but to our delight there were 3 real ales on stillage behind the bar. I had a pint of Hophead, which was in perfect condition and most enjoyable. Worth dropping in for a snack or a few pints, and since they show both BT and Sky Sports, it's probably a good place to come and watch a match.
