A Victorian estate pub on a terrace corner, currently listed as a ACV due to its central role in the community. It also has historic architectural value. It's a relatively unspoilt back street boozer, although the three former bars have been knocked through to form a single triangular room. That said the original bar layout is still very obvious, the counter at the base and a dining area with a brick fireplace on one side. There is a two-level garden on the hill behind. The clientele were very local indeed, not that welcoming, while the barman was efficient without being too congenial. The only ale on was TEA, not brilliantly kept but drinkable. It's good to see these places surviving as they are an important part of England's social fabric, but it's probably best left to the locals.
