The Star Inn, Wotton-Under-Edge

The Star Inn is Wotton's premier cask ale pub and the only one currently in the Good Beer Guide. It was also just about the busiest of 4 open pubs in the town. There are both front and rear bars with outdoors areas (some covered) to the rear. I spotted at least 2 dartboards, 1 to the front left and another in a room along a corridor to the rear right. This appeared to be used as a function room.

Most locals were congregated around the bar in the rear room. There are 5 handpulls, 3 of which were clipped. Wickwar BOB is the regular cask ale. Guests were Settle Hoffman Gold & Goff's Jouster. The other 2 handpulls were vacant but there was also a bag-in-the-box cider from Sandford Orchards. I didn't note down which.

My Hoffman Gold was not in the best condition. It had either not been pulled through or it was reaching the end of the barrel. However, my drinking partners found the BOB in much better form. So, perhaps I was unlucky. I'd certainly be happy to give this pub another try as it was just about the pick of Wotton's pubs.
