An attractive and traditional looking Cotswold stone built pub in this small village, it consists not only of a pub and restaurant but also the village shop. There is a small beer garden at the front as well as further outside seating at the rear by the looks of things. A couple of shire horses were tethered up outside adding to the rural feel.
Internally the main bar is one single room and although largely traditional, somehow felt a little more contemporary than might have been expected, perhaps due to the chairs being modern upright leather backed types like you might get in a smart restaurant rather than your more usual pub furniture. There were old wooden boards on the floor and a few wooden beams on the ceiling, with the walls being predominantly exposed stonework. A large stone chimney breast was at one end with a wood burning stove surrounded by stacks of logs ready for the colder weather. A smaller fireplace and wood burning stove were in the opposite corner whilst there were a number of pieces of canine artwork for sale on the walls.
Beers on tap were Butcombe Rare Breed, Wickwar Cotswold Way and Bristol Beer Factory Fortitude, whilst a fourth pump appeared to have run out. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold and Stowford Press.
