Another semi-riverside pub in Lechlade, although this is almost a mile or so out of the town centre. It's cosy inside with low beams, half-height wood panelling and scuffed floor boards. Possibly a two-roomer in a previous life as there's a thigh-high stone stack in the middle of the room along with a snug area up a step to your right on entry. Breakout dining areas are located to the left of the bar up a couple of narrow steps. Sharp's Doom Bar, Courage Bitter and a passable Wadworth Horizon - at £2.10 a half, the most expensive of the day in Lechlade. There's also Marvel Comic wallpaper in the Gents which seems a little out of keeping for the air of the place.

This pub has been called the Trout since 1704 and oozes history, its rambling buildings show its old age and the flag stoned floor inside has been worn by the feet of drinkers over several hundred years. Extensive riverside gardens, BBQ/live music and other events are held there and in an adjacent camp site that the pub owns. My only grumble is the beer, Sharpes Doombar and a couple of other uninspired choices foisted on the landlady by the owning pub company. That said its always in good nick and its a great place to while away an hour or two on a sunny day. Close to St.Johns Lock on the River Thames. About a 20 mins slow walk from Lechlade.
