After turning back from the Brewers Arms without darkening their door, I was glad to find this pub an oasis of calm and contemplative sobriety, and said something similar to the licensee while he was pouring me a half of Butcombe Original. He advised me that when the football started later it would be anything but quiet. I thanked him for the warning.
I can remember when Butcombe Bitter was a half-decent drink, but it appears that the change of name from Bitter to Original has resulted in it losing the quality of a bitter as well as its name. There were two other beers on the five hand pumps here, but the Butcombe was doubled up, so someone must like it.

The Wheatsheaf is a smallish pub that is built with cotswold stone and is in the town centre.
The pub had Courage signs outside when i went in here but there were no Courage beers on the bar.
There were four real ales on here i had a drink of Greene King IPA which was ok the other beers were GK Abbot, Tetley bitter and Old Speckled Hen.
