Blue Scrumpy left this review about Railway Hotel
The Railway Hotel, so called because it overlooks Southend Central railway station has quite an impressive interior with a nice, long bar, some beautiful tilework, stained glass windows and parquet flooring. The bar top had some old luggage on it for decoration, there was an upturned piano hanging from the ceiling and one end of the room featured a stage with a Wurlitzer next to it. Regular live music is staged.
At the bar, Ghost Ship is the regular beer. Landlord was also on. Keg beers included Beavertown Neck Oil & Cosmic Drop - Berry Punch. The cider was Inch's, whilst cocktails were being promoted on each table.
Whilst the decor is nice, the pub lacked atmosphere with just what looked like a small wedding party at one end and just one other customer other than myself. Barmaids were friendly and efficient but my half of Cosmic Drop set me back £3.50. Gents toilets were very smelly which detracted from the rather elegant nature of the pub.
