Multi-roomed traditional pub just off the market square. There was a crowd in at opening time, but it wasn't a pub crawl as I first thought, it's a Nap league that plays in different pubs every week. They were mostly on coke or lager, but I was interested in the four hand pumps, of course. No local beers, disappointingly, but an interesting selection none the less. I went for halves each of Wye Valley Pyoneer and Shepherd Neame Bishops Finger. (I'd just come from Kent, where I never saw Bishops Finger on the bar, it was always "coming soon".) Both were good or very good (NBSS 3.75 on average, £6 for the two halves). This pub feels like a throwback - like pubs used to be 50 years ago or more.

2nd of the GBG pubs in town.
This would be my local if l lived there.
Full of charm and rooms, hanging off other rooms.
Bustling on a Sunday Lunch - food looked great, Sunday Newspapers and roaring fires.
What more could you want?

This is clearly quite an old pub. It consists of several small rooms with a small bar counter in the middle. Wooden floorboards and beams sum the place up. It was quiet on my Friday midday visit with a few people in for food.
The bar has five hand pumps which sadly just had a fairly mainstream selection of Pedigree, Adnam's Mosaic, Oakham JHB, Doom Bore and Woodforde's Flagondry.
I went for the Mosaic (£3.75) which on a hot day was a bit on the warm side but not a disaster.
I think that this place would be better on a cold winter's day when the open fires are lit. Despite that it's a nice old pub and well worth a look. It's GBG 2015 listed.

A multi roomed pub selling a fair range of real ale but nothing outstanding. I was in there today at lunchtime but unlike 2011 I was the only one in there. Lacks any atmosphere.

A not bad town centre pub just off the market square. Busy enough on a Saturday lunctime. 5 real ales were available, including Woodfordes Wherry which was fine. Food limited to the usual pub grub type fayre.
We didn't have time to seek out any more town centre pubs; I'm sure there must be a better one nearby. Average.

Good staff, only a limited selection of beers and real ales but prices are good compared to most pubs in the area. Good music events.
