An ancient, timber framed pub, the external plasterwork washed a rather lurid mulberry red, in the local style. A smallish bar faces the main door, which opens from the rear of the pub.The public area is heavily timbered: no surface seems to be level.
They seem to have an adventurous beer policy, with a board displaying tasting notes and notices of what is coming next. When we visited, Adnams ‘The Bitter’ was on, alongside a bitter from Cliff Quay in Ipswich, and Woodeford’s ‘Wherry’. I hadn’t had Wherry in ages, but found it OK but dull. I was, however, impressed with the Cliff Quay Bitter, a good honest East anglian session beer. One of my all time favourites, Oakham’s ‘Bishop’s Farewell’ was listed as coming soon.
The food that lunchtime was generous and good value-I rather over did it with a pork shoulder. Good pub
