The first roadside inn on the Southend Arterial Road from the M25, located on a slip road (the intersection used to be a roundabout) with a Little Chef next door. In the dark, walking from the potholed car park, the first door found from the car park was locked, but the second, to the right (later on, found to be signed 'Lounge Bar') takes you to a main bar area which faces the entrance in an L-shaped room with bare floorboards, a raised area to the right-hand corner and a newly-carpeted dining area with bar, up some steps ahead to the right and which curves back around behind the bar. GK St Edmunds and H&H Rocking Rudolph were on handpump along with Theakstons Peculiar and Coast to Coast on keg taps (didn't partake as driving). There were plenty of middle-aged Essex men effing and jeffing at the bar, so we didn't hang around long enough to enjoy the ambience.
