I didn't really take any notice of how stunning looking this pub is from the outside, until I saw Moby's recent photo. The interior of the pub is tastefully finished with William Morris wallpaper and a very ornate looking central bar, plus some lovely stained glass panels above the windows. However you will pay a premium at the bar for this privilege, £6 for a pint of cask, which was in excellent condition plus the young barmaid did do a fabulous group photo.

After a short walk through picturesque Southover Grange Gardens, we find ourselves in affluent Southover.
This is quite an upmarket pub so naturally a bit foodie. Customers were prosperous locals, then an eclectic mêlée drawn from around the country.
A Gun/Harvey’s selection amounted to a half of Old Ale, a very pricey £3.00 – understandable given the location – and good.
A nice pub in a fine location, but as mentioned, the ale choice is limited and the more-than-London prices are a deterrent.

Set in the Lewes backstreets The Kings Head is a pleasant traditional pub with several areas around the centrally placed island bar. There were three cask beers on offer, a couple from Harveys as you would expect, Old Ale and Sussex Best along with Gun Scaramanga, the Old was very good.
A pleasant pub I'd have no problem returning to.

Situated in a quiet residential area ,the exterior is attractive with some decent brewers tudor, while the interior has an island bar surrounded by traditional furniture with scrubbed floor boards. There are two sections up a step to the right framed by old timbers while out the back there is a very large beer garden with wooden seating booths on one side,a real sun trap in good weather.
Three handpumps were drawing Gun Pale Ale,Harveys Sussex Best and Old Ale (NBSS 4).A friendly welcome ,a decent crawl visit but a limited ale range.

Visited 14/03/25. Visited previously on 07/07/20. Was oft visited in the period before you could drink inside venues in both lockdowns as there is a nice public garden nearby where take-away pints were taken and I am thinking I have never actually had a drink inside here previously!
Cask was the Old Ale and Sussex Best from Harvey's and the Project Babylon Pale Ale from Gun. Keg was Staro, Guinness, Aspall, Moretti, Peroni, Amstel, Neck Oil and the Alpacalypse from Salt.
This is a decent corner pub slightly away from the main stretch of pubs on the High St. On this occasion the front part was a bit rowdy with lads having their post working week pints so not that enjoyable on my visit, so I moved on after my quick pint of Harvey's. Corner entrance info to a bare boarded front part with the bar counter an island affair in the centre part of the front of the venue. The fire just inside the entrance wasn't lit on what felt like a mild early spring evening. There are some red velvet banquettes serving a couple of tables just inside the entrance and on the right-hand side of the bar, with some tall tables to the right rear part of this front section. The bar counter on the left-hand side offered the same keg beers and a few chaps were perched on stools in that part with some regular tables and chairs at the front part of that side. The middle section of the pub up a couple of steps had some seating either side and which was occupied by diners on my visit. The garden, not examined by me tonight, was through a door on the left-hand side mid venue and there was a rear further raised area at the back with a large table occupied by a single group of diners on my visit. Walls are adorned with a multitude of framed photos and prints.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Kings Head
This is a traditional-looking pub located about halfway along Southover's historic High Street, so the comprehensive refurbishment of the slightly split-level interior comes as something of a surprise. This features stripped pine furniture and flooring, white paintwork and low-level lighting. As could be predicted in these parts, the solitary real ale available from the pair of handpumps was Harvey's (£4.50).

The impressive old frontage is now sadly let down by the radical refurbishment inside, with stripped floors, soft grey walls and sundry chic furnishings giving a trendy wine bar feel. Tabletops are mainly constructed from old scaffold planks, while in one corner lurk a couple of armchairs with shaggy cushions. A large plastic toy castle seems totally out of place. It still retains a couple of handpumps though, with just Harvey's Best on at time of visit, plus a Purity Mad Goose clip reversed. One to take the girlfriend out to dinner at rather than a drink with your mates.

Re-opened on 26th Oct and now part of the Revived Inns group. Pretty much unchanged internally apart from a lick or two of paint. Emphasis very much on food but the are three real ales on; Harvey's Best is a regular plus two guest beers which at the time of visiting were London Pride and Long Blonde. Expect to have Long Man Brewery American Pale Ale back on soon plus a dark beer. Check out the pub's website at https://www.revivedinns.co.uk/the-kings-head

The Kings Head is an open plan pub with an island bar and seating area to the right. A limited premium draught range is available and the two hand pumps were drawing Harveys Best and Flowers Original during my visit late on Thursday night. This pub seems to attract the more affluent of the area which is not surprising as I had to fork out £3.30 for a pint of Flowers. I didn’t spot any TVs or sport advertisements and the background music was mostly of the jazz genre, which I’m not the biggest fan of to be honest. Food is served and I didn’t spot any menus due to my late arrival, but I would imagine that it is not the cheapest in the area.
I found the barmaid to be very friendly once she spotted me over the mound of forks she was polishing, but this pub is a little too gastro for my liking so I will give it a miss when next in the town of Harveys.
