After an utterly exhausting climb up Keere Street, we were rewarded with this fine example of brewers’ Tudor, sporting a lovely terracotta cartouche from former Croydon brewer Page & Overton (see photo); I didn’t know they traded this far out.
This is a genuine family-run freehouse, of which, carpet aside, I have absolutely no memory other than of a rather rude young barmaid (see below), so perhaps I’m subconsciously blocking out the trauma.
My notes state that I had a half of Kent Pale, £2.55 and fine.

This pub was nicely finished throughout with lots of dark timbers, which included a built in clock above the main entrance. The main bar faces you as you enter and continues into the rear lounge. I do agree with BF below about the tiny gents loo, I walked in and nearly knocked some poor bloke over whilst he was drying his hands. The relative size of the toilet to the size of the pub is quite bizarre.
The bar staff seemed ok until the young barmaid was trying to charge me for two pints instead of my two halves I received and after pulling her up she abruptly snatched my note off me. The pub served food and what I could make out from what was on the tables, it looked very good indeed and a handsome sized portion.

A very steep climb up from the Southover district is rewarded by a pleasing brick brewers tudor exterior and some original features inside. There is some good etched glass, the front section is traditional, carpeted and has a lounge feel while through an original door is a rear saloon with its own servery playing host to a private function on my trip.Between the rooms is one of the smallest gents lavs ,two really is company and it's easy to set off the hand drier when manoevering about !
On my visit the ale range was Three Acre Skylark Stout,Beak Lulla Pale (NBSS 4),Rother Valley Hoppers Ale,Kent Golden Pale,Harveys Sussex Best together with a Thirsty Cross cider. A decent line up,a worthy crawl visit. There is also a very decent whisky selection which enhances the pubs attraction for drinkers.

I was here 10 years ago, but have no notes of that visit. The building and interior were familiar, and the line up of beers on the bar was encouraging. I went for the Three Acre Skylark. My drinking companion, a West Sussex man, was not familiar with this East Sussex brewery, though I have seen its beers many times in Yorkshire. This stout was in very good condition. Looking around, there was a busy lunchtime crowd with quite a few with cask beers, from what I could see.

Visited 08/09/24. First counted on 01/12/18 as part of my first crawl of Lewes pubs and been back many times since. Generally, been adding reviews only of first visit to a venue but not wanting to go back and post review based on notes from historic visits thought I would add reviews as I routinely revisit venues!
I do identify with a number of the comments below on it having the feel of a local pub for locals, but I think the very good beer range and quality of its keeping drags me back here occasionally, although I do prefer other pubs in Lewes. The main bar area is accessed from the door at the front by the traffic lights and the bar counter does have that annoying feature of stools all along both sides so when they are all occupied you have to strain to see the clips. The room is carpeted and there is banquette seating all around the perimeter with tables and chairs the other sides thereof fully occupied by Sunday lunch diners on my visit. The walls are adorned with pictures of local scenes. The back room had plenty of seating, a pool table, a large screen and a smaller bar servery. Some of the seating was booths and was also busy with diners.
Seven of the hand pumps were operational providing Thirsty Cross cider from Whisky Cask, the compulsory (for this neck of the woods) Harvey’s Best, Joub Joub an IPA from Titsey Brewing, the Blonde Ale from J W Lees, Plough Man’s from Mauldons, the Harvey’s Porter and another cider at the end of the set of pumps, not quite accessible for a gander because of the aforementioned locals crowding that segment of the bar. Keg beer comprised K1664, Burning Sky Arise, Bongo from Only With Love, Stowford Press cider, Murphy’s Stout, Red Flag Pale Ale from Three Legs, Becks Vier and Harvey’s Pilsner.
Happy to record a visit on here to echo the comments below well worth including on a Lewes crawl, but I see it as a crawl pub rather than being a venue to linger in even though I could happily get through quite of the beers offered here. After a while you get a bit fed up of older local patrons who all think they are aspiring comedians, and with the sense of humour that generally ceased being funny in the 1970’s.

Rather dull pub inside, beers ok but not helped by Mr Local standing in the middle of the bar chatting up the barmaid, blocking the beer selection. At first I thought he was being served but eventually noticed he was half way down his half of bitter. She could have done more and was then rather curt with me wanting to be served. Local pub for local people?

Back at The Brewers after (checks notes.....) 13 years and not much seems to have changed. 8 pumps (it was initially difficult to be exact with drinkers seated at the bar), 2 of which are for cider, and one for Harvey's of course. Burning Sky Arise & something from Deya enhance the usual keg offerings. There was an extensive food offering listed on a blackboard.
There was a good buzz in the front bar after a Lewes FC game. The back room was occupied by pool players. The wi-fi is more than a bit flaky (I wouldn't rely on it).
Definitely should be on your list for a quality pub crawl in this handsome town of fine pubs.

This seemed very much a locals pub with the public at the front and large saloon to the rear complete with pool table. The food menu looked very reasonably priced and a good selection of beer and cider to go with it. Eight handpumps with Gun Parabellum and Project Babylon, Old Dairy Blue Top and Tring Wooden Wonder, a couple of Ciders were Biddenden Dry and Thirsley Cross Whisky Cask. A very agreeable pub.

I also got to visit this one in the gap between the two covid lockdowns of 2020 and also found it to be a decent pub with a good ale choice. The two bar set up has been well described by previous reviewers but as I visited on a fine warm and sunny September day I utilised the small enclosed courtyard garden out back which is reached by descending a wooden staircase from the back bar.
Five of the hand pumps were in operation, also with two from Tring available, and the one I went for was well kept.
It certainly is worth a visit if you find yourself at this end of the High Street when in Lewes, but I actually preferred the couple of pubs in the pedestrianised section at the other end of town across the river by the Harveys Brewery.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Brewers Arms
Impressive mock-Tudor façade with a plaque indicating the former Page & Overton Brewery ownership. Once inside, you find a busy main bar with its counter facing the door, but there is also a much larger (if less characterful) room with its own small servery at the back. Food is offered, but this place is perhaps best known for its real ales. Even in these difficult times, I found the inevitable Harvey's plus a pair of Tring beers, Franklin's Avalon (£4.10) and a cider being dispensed from five of the eight handpumps.
