Idle Hands has reverted to being called the Royal Standard. The serving counter in the left rear corner supports premium and mainstream craft keg and the food stretches to pies that are available from a heated cabinet. The television was airing muted cricket via Sky Sports and some background music was playing during a recent Saturday mid-afternoon visit. The interior is smart, and the barman was very friendly, but the lack of any interesting draught means that I’ll not be returning, until maybe another change of name.

Now a craft bar with 12 keg taps with beers on from a range of A list brewers. A dimly lit single room with an assortment seating including leather sofas, stools, chairs and tables. Although the beer list was good it wasn't cheap, two thirds of Siren Double Double at 6.0% was a fiver.
Ok but not a place for an extended stay.

Small bar just down the road from the train station. 1 real on during my visit and food served. Handy for the bus pick up to the racecourse.

The Royal Standard is a very small single room bar with a classic pub name. The two hand pumps were drawing Harveys Best and Tribute and there is a standard draught selection alongside San Miguel and a selection of hot drinks. I bypassed the coffee and went for a Guinness that was well served by the friendly governor. There is a plasma screen and Sky Sports is advertised for those who like a nice intimate setting for the football. There was some inoffensive background music playing during my visit on Saturday evening and thankfully it wasn’t as busy as its peers so I actually got a seat. The toilets are for customers use only and they are located down some stairs at the rear.

I thought this to be a pleasant enough bar and I would return.

Fairly nondescript sort of place and should do better being so close to the station, although it does have a lot of competition.
