Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Ranelagh
Decent little High Street (as in a Kemptown side street) pub with a compact bar and small rear area being set up for a live band. Rustic furniture and mostly music-related memorabilia for decor. Patio area to one side. Four real ales on handpump: Doom Bar, Sussex and Old Ale (£4.10, and worth every penny) from Harvey's and Otter Ale. Another plus was a real fire which was most welcome on a cold early winter's evening.

Strongers . left this review about The Ranelagh
Just off St James’s Street is The Ranelagh which hosts live country and blues every Friday and Saturday evening. It is not the biggest pub and I imagine that it is quite a squeeze when the bands are playing, but there was no such problem on a very quiet Wednesday evening last week. Along with a bluesy and country theme there is plenty of exposed red brick and the top of the bar is caked in coins. Premium draught products are available and the four hand pumps were drawing Doom Bar and HSB alongside Harveys Christmas Ale and Best. I had a half of the 7.5% Christmas Ale which was syrupy and difficult to finish.
I found this to be a comfortable pub and the governor was extremely friendly. I’d have no problem returning for another beer.
