This 17th Century building sits on a busy corner and has just reopened (July 2014) as gastropub and freehouse. The last time it was a pub it was called the Pudding and Pie, and since then it has been an Indian restaurant and a Rock Restaurant. All the refurbishments and identity changes have erased much of the original character and it is now a bright, open establishment with modern wood flooring, a solid wood bar top and a mix of barstools and comfy chairs. There is also a tv screen. It doesn't yet have a strong local cadre, and most of the trade seems to be visitors dining. The only member of staff present was the manageress, who was young and enthusiastic and seemed to know quite a lot about the beer they sell. There were three pumps on the bar, but only two ales on. I had a fantastic pint of Bowman's Swift One, well kept and in perfect condition. I'll definitely be back for the beer and would be happy to eat here of an evening as well. If this standard is maintained they will have an excellent pub in no time.
