A large roadside pub with a good sized carpark. It is currently owned by Marstons and has just had a change of landlord. It has also recently undergone some structural renovation, remaining open despite the scaffolding which mars the exterior. There a wooden floored dining room on the left as you enter, which suffers from bad acoustics and the atmosphere of a village Scout hut. The bar to the right is much more welcoming, being carpeted and having some character. There is a feature brick fireplace at one end, a tv and unused dartboard at the other. The staff are very welcoming and the pub is dog-friendly. The locals are also pleasant, but they are outnumbered by passing trade, much of it from the construction industry. The pub runs regular quiz and entertainment evenings. There is a decent sized outside seating area with wooden benches and tables, but traffic noise spoils it slightly. There is free wifi (Marstons's own) inside and out. The food is formulaic, pre-prepared and unimaginative, but it isn't too expensive. There were two ales on, both from Ringwood. I had a pint of Fortyniner which was well-kept and in very good condition. Worth stopping for a beer if passing.
