A pleasant bay-windowed village pub with a rural feel though close to the town. It is currently owned by Hall and Woodhouse. There is a decent sized car park, though some of the 4WD fraternity prefer to use the grass verge opposite. Atteh front is a large paved terrace with plenty of seating for outdoor drinkers and smokers. There is a large saloon bar with a few tables laid for diners, and a small Victorian fireplace at the apex. A pile of high chairs for children makes this a place potentially to avoid in busy periods. At the other end is the Village Bar, a smaller room with a small woodburner and parquet floor, where dogs are allowed (there are dog biscuits in a jar on the mantel) and the conversation is much more 'manly' – dogs, guns and football as opposed to interior design and shopping at the other end. There were 2 ales on, I had a pint of First Call which was a little flat but otherwise very drinkable. This is a pleasant pub which is worth finding, and I'd be happy to spend a little more time here.
