A traditional town pub with 18th Century roots, the current structure being mainly Victorian but altered through subsequent building work. It's a nice location, just off the Town centre by the river and in sight of the park. The main bar is large and L-shaped. The floor is mostly laid with industrial carpet, not elegant but functional. A dart board and a piano provide entertainment. There is a wood burner in the chimney breast, wooden floors and a wood-clad ceiling. Large planters adorn the external walls making it an inviting place to visit. There are 4 hand pumps dispensing 2 ales. I had a pint of Tribute which was in perfect condition, one of the best I've had. It's not a perfect pub, but its excellent beer quality and very friendly, convivial atmosphere enabled by welcoming staff make it a place well worth visiting for an innings.
