An historic pub still owned by GK. Forty years ago, this was where the Royal Engineers and Royal Navy used to meet for a scrap before going to the now-defunct Tommy's Burger Bar, but it's now a much tamer shadow of its former self. We met one of the regulars, and old soldier who remembers those days, though the majority of today's customers are grockles and shoppers. It still has a bit of pub atmosphere, and the staff are friendly enough. Ales on were GK IPA, Abbott and King Mango, alongside the usual megakeg line-up. Worth it for the nostalgia value and to see the historic interior, but there are better pubs nearby.

Recently taken over to become a Greene King pub which one would hope might improve matters but no chance - just paid £3.60 for a pint of flat vinegar described as Old Golden Hen.The landlady/manager insisted that was how beer from a barrel should be and if that is the case the sooner she is returned to a job she knows something about, or the pub sells only John Smiths the better.
If you want a decently priced attractive flavoursome pint then go elsewhere

A terraced town centre pub that has character, in white render, with front facing gable and oriel window. There is a patio.
The interior is open plan. There is a long bar on the left hand side after entering from the main street. The general décor is white with support and ceiling beams, the room has a few areas, including a pool table area in cream and wood panel and a small sofa area which has a stone fireplace. There is some naval ephemera and prints on the walls. The service was fine and there was a mixed clientele. There was a TV with the sport on and the background music was general, but loudish. They did food, but I didn’t eat here so I can’t comment on that.
Beer; tap stuff with Ringwood Bitter and a decent Dorset Brewing Company’s Jurassic on handpull.
It was a decent enough place to visit and I would go back. It may appeal to the younger crowd on weekends.

The Black Dog is a former Devonish pub that is on one of Weymouths main shoping streets.
If you enter here from the main entrance the bar is to the left and the pub has lots of different drinking areas, there is also a small back entrance which is on the sea front.
There were two real ales on when i went in here i had a drink of Weymouth Quay Pale ale which was a nice drink the other beer was Bass.
Whenever we have been in here this pub has always been busy.
Pub visited 25 August 1999.
