Sadly nobody from Stella Street here. A small backstreet GBG micro (a 2021 opener in a former takeaway) with two Brampton and one Abbeydale cask, the latter of which was in decent nick (NBSS 3). Chatty barman, though he had to be really as there was only one other customer in. My comments about the Brown Cow met with a knowing look but no incriminating words. Foam on the bog door – not sure whether it was to keep the heat in, the sound out, or both! Worth a look but beware it’s a bit of a schlep out. 6.5

The monicker may put some off, but Stella Taps is actually a very good micropub that doesn’t sell Stella, as far as I could tell. There’s some seating up the left-hand wall and a high table sits beside the right-hand wall adjacent to an L-shaped serving counter that continues towards the rear. The three hand pumps were drawing Empire Brewing’s The Dog’s Bollocks, Full Mash Brewery’s Rust Bucket and Lenton Lane Brewery’s Cloudburst, the latter being very good. There are also some keg fonts on the back bar that were pouring a couple of strong ciders alongside some craft beers. The low inoffensive background music didn’t detract from the convivial atmosphere generated by the eight or so locals present during a recent early Thursday evening visit. There is a large TV, but this is placed in the window with a desert island screensaver on loop, which I suppose is a better view that the road outside. For busier times there’s some overflow seating in a room at the rear, I didn’t look in to see if there was anything interesting to note. I thought the service was very friendly and this was my favourite venue of the evening.
