Old Boots left this review about The Counting House
A GBG 2026 listed pub immediately next door to the Robin Hood, housed in a former bank as the carving over the main door reminds us. An L shaped interior with the counter in the short arm running parallel to the front wall. The long arm has seating in a mixed style of high and low tables with chairs and stools along with a drinking catafalque like structure with tall stools. Along the front wall are a couple of tall tables with bum numbing metal stools. The decor is a mad old mix including a mini car front embedded in one wall, to paraphrase Tony Hancock “he must have been going a hell of a speed”. Anyhoo there are four pulls with, today, two from very nearby Goose Eye, Black Sheep Ale and Dark Horse Hetton Pale, the keg choice is fairly pedestrian with nothing to scare the horses bar a beer called Omnia from Craven Brew a mile or so away at Cross Hills. You might be tempted to call it a micro but the piped music, screen and wine/spirits/cocktails might say no.
