My third micropub of the day and by far the best, very plush and comfy feeling with maybe an underlying eccentricity about it , the seating very mixed and randomly spread around, my Buxton SPA was good, one of a decent mix of five ales. Very nice and a little different.

A very neat micropub with some eclectic decoration. It feels like your gran may have lived here at some point. A real mix of people in the pub on a Monday afternoon and a good selection of ales on the 5 handpumps. There's an interesting snack menu as well, all very tongue in cheek e.g. Desserts - we may be able to find you a fruitgum. I really liked it here and we'll certainly call in again when down this way.

This conversion of a former off-licence has been carried out with a touch of class, from the new floorboards and the Wedgwood blue paint on the walls to the eclectic mix of furniture. Perhaps a slight lapse in taste with the stuffed birds and animals, but there's a subversive commentary on these with an obviously fake mounted bear's head and an elk's head in cartoon style, made out of fabric and mounted in a bookcase.
More to the point, and probably what most of us would be coming here for, is the diverse selection of beers on the bar counter at the rear. Half a dozen hand pumps are joined by a similar number of keg fonts. I paid no attention to the latter, but spotted two beers from Brew Foundation, whose new venture this is; it's a brewery started by two beer enthusiasts - father and son - and they use the plant at Wincle brewery in the Peak District, one of whose beers is also on the bar. Shelves and chiller cabinets to the right of the bar display bottled beers to drink in or out, and some of these are also from Wincle and Brew Foundation. I had the Wincle Old Hag together with Brew Foundation Wheat Your Heart Out, both in excellent condition, and although I wouldn't want to drink a lot of the wheat beer I went back for another half of Old Hag (and a bottle to take home) plus one of Lymestone Stone Faced, which also went down well. This is a very comfortable micropub, and although the prices are a little higher than I would normally expect to pay in Sheffield, I'm sure I'll be back.
