Cask offering was the Gold from Five Points, Cosmic Pale Peach from Tiny Rebel, Manchester Bitter from Marble and the Railway Porter also from Five Points (and as i didn't note, from memory, on a longer stay here i had at least some of all). Keg offering was Martina lager from Bohem, Sunburst mango & apricot sour and the Post Run pale ale both from Mad Squirrel and the London Black from Anspach & Hobday. Cider offering Rosie's Pig from Weston's, Half-a sec from Bollhayes, Mango from Seacider and a Perry from Oliver's.
This is a fantastic shop conversion and so small and cosy cask and keg emporium par excellence. Boarded with bar counter in rear left-hand corner in front of the cold room where the casks and kegs are stored. Mish mash of furniture, mish mash of stuff on the walls. Didn’t need many in for it to be busy and vibrant, indeed most in when I visited were playing a board game. Not much other descriptive stuff but recognition that this is a fantastic venue to trek to and re trek to, emphasis on trek unless like me you arrived and left by Uber – places to go, people to see etc (OK pubs and their bar staff).

As mentioned, this is either (a.) a labour of love to reach if you don’t live in N21 or; (b.) a short walk if you do. As described below, this pub’s name is a homage to the late 18th century Green Dragon which closed in 2015, now a Waitrose, 300 yards south of here, which I stupidly failed to visit when I was last up here in February 2010.
Recently beatified by CAMRA as Greater London Pub of the Year 2024, the interior is small as befits a micropub, with a laminate floor, mismatched tall chunky furniture, aluminium keg stools, black sofas and a corner pew. Décor takes the form of knickknacks and a multitude of pump clips, along with an omnibus departure board, listing only those going north, from where customers were undoubtedly drawn, an older slightly hippy crowd – one a vicar with dog collar – along with a troupe of spent minstrels, making for a jovial atmosphere at the time of my Tuesday visit at just gone 9.00pm.
Sticking to halves, the cask selection amounted to Beerblefish Pan Galactic Pale (£2.30), Ilkley Blonde (£2.20), Mighty Oak Gorgeous George (£2.20) and Front Row Wot It’s Cherry (£2.40), all on fine form, served by an effusive and knowledgeable barman, though in tulip glasses, not lined as was led to believe by CAMRA. In addition, there were four keg/key keg options and ciders – questionably ‘real’ – in the form of Rosie’s (certainly not ‘real’), two from Seacider (‘real’?) and Duddas Tun (no idea). There was an old church hymns’ board listing spirits – bottled in nature – (donated by the vicar?); a cornucopia of games included table skittles, shove ha’penny and Carrom
Micros can be a bit hit and miss: loved the one by the station in Burton, loved the one by the station in Hove but wouldn’t return to the one in Oxford’s Headington; aside from the needy dogs blocking the aisle and plonking their paws on my table (of all things), this is a great place – all it needs is a railway station.

Fortunately, compared to Moby, it’s not a mission to get here when you live in N21. Just announced that it has been awarded the Enfield and Barnet CAMRA branch POTY again.
Four ales from cask and then up to four from keykeg and keg. The pull through is such that I have popped in for a Saturday lunchtime pint and then when I popped in again later in the evening, two of the casks had been changed.
Decor and layout has worn in nicely since opening and additional transport themed items have been added, such as a large framed direction board that used to adorn the front of an early 1900’s Palmers Green trolley bus, that a mate of mine discovered in his parents house attic and donated to Richard at the LGD after taking it on Antiques Roadshow to get Fiona and crew to confirm it wasn’t of great worth and would not affect Richard’s building and contents insurance.
There are now regular music nights with local musicians doing turns and the occasional pop up kitchen out back during the weekend, although as a rule of thumb there is generally no food here outside of bar snacks.
