A modern Marston’s outlet on a trading estate, with an associated Travelodge next door, with which the pub shares a car park. There is a paved outside seating area with tables and chairs, and a large covered smoking pod. Inside, there is a single large bar with a central servery, carpeted and informally divided into different areas. Most of the pub is occupied by dining tables, well spaced. There is a repro period fireplace and wood panelling in one corner, a children’s play area, and gaming machines are dotted throughout. It’s clearly aimed at families travelling to the West Country for school holidays and doesn’t really have a pub feel to it. Two ales on, Hobgoblin and Pedigree. I had the Hobgoblin, which was in very poor condition and not at all enjoyable. Probably OK for its intended demographic, but I shan’t be coming aboard again.
