The Astronomer is an L-shaped Hungry Horse that has an L-shaped central serving counter that supports premium keg options alongside Fosters and seven hand pumps that were all badged with Abbot Ale. In the right-hand side of the pub is a carpeted dining area and laminate flooring with seating is found opposite the counter across the front. More laminate is found up the left where there are high tables, a pool table, a dartboard and a television with soundless HH adverts. There was some background music playing to the almost empty pub during a recent early midweek afternoon visit. There is a large car park at the rear, but there is no rear entrance, so you must walk around to the pub to the front. There’s a £100 fine for parking without validating a car registration at the bar, I wasn’t prompted to do this by the staff but thankfully remembered as I was leaving. A family friendly food led pub, it serves a purpose, just not one I’m interested in.
