A Brakspear country pub with lovely elevated views over the Chiltern valley in the garden. A collection of small and snug rooms inside with red painted stone walls, low ceilings, red carpet and a huge inglenook by the bar. It mainly caters for the dining set, though drinking is fine and there were spare tables for the task. Two ales at the small bar-cum-hatch - Brakspear Bitter and Gold which were both in good nick if rather expensive (over 4 quid). If it’s a summer’s day and you fancy a drink, this one is a good bet. 6.5

A charming Brakspear country pub (and they have a few), busy on a Sunday lunchtime with the plummy-voiced, which necessitated al fresco drinking on my behalf. It's snug inside, with a counter facing you on entry and an area to the right with a handful of tables. Bearing around to the left (in an L-shape) a small bar is located to the right, with a further room up ahead. Décor-wise it's low-ceilinged, dark wooded with a red carpet. Brakspear Bitter and Oxford Gold were the ale options with a third pump unclipped, and a pint came in at £4.00, and was well-kept as you'd expect for that price. Plenty of staff on meant no dithering and there was no truck with my drink-only diet. All the tables were set for dining, so al fresco drinking it was and the decent-sized beer garden affords a nice view of the valley. Not sure what the drill would be with indoor imbibing though during busy times.
