Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Ben Nevis

Probably best known as a whisky bar (currently with about 285 different bottles on the shelves, with a ladder required to reach the higher ones), but interesting beers are another feature here. The bar sits under the end of a tenement row and has an unusually high ceiling which allows for some unusual decorative features making use of the space available vertically. Here All Year from Fyne Ales and Cromarty's Happy Chappy (£4.50) available from the pair of handpumps on my visit. Also has a range of craft beers on the keg taps and in bottled / canned form.

It's perhaps a measure of this pub's quality that one of the beers I was drinking was turned around within 10 minutes of mine being poured, by which I mean it was very near the bottom of the barrel. But I rated it NBSS 4, and there can't have been much more poured before it got to the sludge, as most here were on Guinness or lager. My other beer (there are just two hand pumps - see photo) was also worthy of NBSS 4. It was very busy, with a group of folk musicians performing unobtrusively (yeah, I know, it doesn't seem very likely but come up and see for yourselves), and a great atmosphere despite my tinnitus. If all else had failed, there's a tremendous display of malt whisky behind the bar. Very good pub.

A really interesting street corner pub with a traditional exterior. Inside it's one square room but with a very high ceiling and bare stone block walls.To one side is a real fire in a raised grate,bench seating and small stools around the periphery and two "ironing board" drinking shelves in the centre of the room,one with two levels and both with high stools.The flooring is dark and traditional while the high bar back has a big whisky collection and a required ladder to reach the bottles high up.
Two handpumps ,one reversed meaning hobsons choice of Salopian Beatific ,a good porter well kept (NBSS 4).There were some decent keg options too.
Despite the limited ale choice I warmed to the place,the tall barman was friendly and also has a raised serving area ,which he joked meant he could keep an eye out for who was entering,but maybe in Glasgow you need to react quickly to wrong 'uns !
Worth including in a real ale crawl.Features in the 2023 GBG.
