My second suburban Rotherham roadhouse of the day, this one perhaps a little bigger than the Stag at Herringthorpe. There were six hand pumps, all national or regional brands (see photo). My pint of Black Sheep Bitter was end-of-barrel and quickly replaced with Landlord (NBSS 3), with my Camra member's discount knocking the price of a pint down to just £3.24. No extra charge for the Landlord, but no apology for the poor beer originally served either, so I didn't feel at all guilty about it. I didn't feel as comfortable here as at the Stag, maybe because the Black Sheep had knocked me off my stride, or maybe it was the way the women who came in five minutes after me were eyeing up my table. No, they definitely weren't looking at me, they wanted me to leave so that they could sit there - which they did as soon as my bum left the seat.
