A Victorian village inn, with much older roots, currently run by Marston's. It still offers B&B. On entry it appears scruffy, the car park being a bit rough and the first bit of lawn unkempt, a large, faded trampoline its main feature. You walk around the house to get to the door, past a detached skittle alley and a much nicer enclosed lawned area with bench seating and a small gravelled yard which serves as a smoking terrace. Inside, there is a dining room on the right as you enter, which is also used as a second function room where they host quizzes and live bands – Tuesday is folk night. The main bar on the left is long and thin, homely and welcoming. Locals are friendly, the staff long suffering when the occasional idiot wanders in. Two ales on, Banks's EPA and Bitter, plus a boxed cider and various Marston's beers in bottles. The beer was in good condition, quite enjoyable. It's a good, working village pub, the heart of its community and unspoilt by the tourist trade, making it something of a rarity around here.
