A proper working class street corner boozer,in through the side door and right into the public bar ,square and quite small with bench seating but little in the way of decoration. The servery is two sided and the chalk board showed an ale range on my visit of Marston's Bass (NBSS 4),Salopian Oracle,Tiny Rebel Cosmic Pale and TT Landlord ,a decent range without being spectacular. The conditioning of my pint indicated that the 2025 GBG is warranted.
Beyond the public bar there is a large pool room while further around there is a wood panelled lounge ,again bench seating and small stools with a sports flatscreen on mute,a wood burner and a small bar access. There is a recessed area with a darts board but the game of choice in the lounge was dominoes, mixed age group of lads enjoying the challenge.
The barmaid was welcoming and the regulars seemed relaxed with a stranger in their midst, there is occasional live music and televised sport will bring in the punters.
I liked it and would happily return, worth including on any crawl around town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Castle Mona
Traditional community local set on a street corner, with a wood-panelled lounge on one side of the servery and a more basic bar (with pool table and table skittles) on the other. Surprisingly, there is also a part-patio / part-grass beer garden at the back. Two of three handpumps on each counter in use, including Bass and real ales from Joule's and Salopian.

A proper street corner local with two rooms wrapped around a central bar. It opens at 4pm and apparently the regulars call in here on their way home from work, and a different and probably quieter crowd attend in the evenings. I was immediately enveloped in conversation, starting with the barman shrewdly identifying that I was on a reconnaissance for a pub crawl. The unrelenting chatter meant that my notes on this visit were somewhat perfunctory. There are two hand pumps on the side of the bar where I found myself, with four more in the room opposite. Bombardier and Joules Slumbering Monk were the ones I could see, but it will require another visit to determine what was on the other side - I believe I can recall that there were just three beers on. This was my pub of the day for friendliness and atmosphere, though to be fair the beer was nothing special compared with some of the others visited on the day.
