I thought The Toad In The Hole functioned as the Hand Brewery tap, but there's just one of their ales and a Lakedown on the pumps, and there's no denying the cellar is struggling in this latest heatwave. If I were staying for a second, it would have to be from the keg taps, which all seem to offer locally sourced craft beer (assuming Stardust, whoever they might be, are located in Sussex).

Beer quality issues aside, I think I prefer the pub in summer rather than winter, as the patrons can disperse to the benches out the front, which leaves some room for visitors, which I've not always found to be the case in the colder months.

A pretty solid stand alone pub now owned by Hand Brew. A traditional loosely J shaped interior, it was quiet on my visit but was pretty close to it's opening time. Four hand pumps provided two from Hand Brew, Bird and a decent Tamper, Downlands Cascade and Accention Cider.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Toad In The Hole

The former Castle Tavern is now a Hand Brew Co outlet, named after the old Sussex pub game. The bold lime-green exterior certainly catches the eye, and it's still pleasingly traditional inside the L-shaped interior too. I found three of the four handpumps in use, offering the High 5 oat pale (£5.00) and Acronymius ESB plus an Ascension cider.
