The Duke is about a ten minute walk away from Mapperly tops main shopping street and towards St Ann’s. This is a roadside local’s pub and carters more for the people around the nearby estate as opposed to weekenders hitting Mapperly top for a big night out. Very traditional in its features the Duke has a long central bar as you enter with lots of seating all around the pub with nice carpets as well as comfy bench seating. Some would call the decor in here warn but I feel rustic is a better word. There has been no modernisation in here and it feels like I suspect it would have back in the 70’s and I like that. There were three real ales on the bar with harvest pale, Bombardier and Robinson’s Trooper. The Trooper (£3.20) was kept in very good shape and slipped down nicely. As with all locals pubs there can be a few rougher characters inn but they were all in good spirit laughing and joking around the bar, after all it’s these type of people who keep local pubs alive. I liked the traditional atmosphere of it in here but maybe a touch up wouldn’t go a miss while in keeping with its look. Aside from this I would be happy to return as it is one of the types of pubs hat I like going in as it has no pretences. The three ales are a real bonus and I would be happy to return here for a couple if ever around this area again.

When i went in the Duke of Cambridge it was an Home Ales tied house,it was opposite the church and close to the Belle Vue.
This was a proper drinkers pub that was fairly basic inside and both Home mild and bitter were on here these were real ales and also a very nice pint.
This pub is still operating but i am not sure what beers it now has on here.
