The Finger Post is a very big Robinson’s pub and hotel with a wooden floored bar area in the front left where the serving counter across the rear faces banquette seating under the front and left-hand windows. A couple of televisions were airing the Spain semi-final Euro24 match at a very low volume, which was odd because me and the only other customer were both watching it. At the rear is a flight of stairs up to the hotel and in the right-hand side of the pub are lots of rooms of differing sizes, including a hall at the far end. I spotted at least one pool table and a couple of dartboards. Two of the four hand pumps were in use drawing Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn. Standard keg was also available alongside Madri from the polite young barmaid. I think this pub is a bit too far out of the way to warrant a revisit.

A red brick hotel at a busy cross roads. It's a Robinsons pub, but most of the customers were drinking lager, Guiness, cider, bottles of fizz; anything it seems except beers made in the local brewery. I went for a half of Unicorn - the alternative was Dizzy Blonde - and it was predictably tired and flabby. I normally quite like pubs like this, but there was something about the way it was run, something about the customers. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it all added up to a certain roughness - not the sort that makes you breathe a sigh of relief on exiting unscathed, more like just looking forward to something a bit better down the road.
