Clive Thompson left this review about The Runner (at Green's)
The Runner is part of Green’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar but is actually a bar in it’s own right. Despite the address there is also an entrance in Lombard Street, and it is located in the old Head Office of Lloyds Bank. On entering it looks a bit like a hotel reception with marbled floors a reception desk and a piano. Turn right and you’ll find a wonderful high-ceilinged space that holds a horseshoe shaped bar. There are a few tables dotted around and comfortable booths round the outside. Vertical drinking at the bar is acceptable. To the left of the bar is a small room dedicated to Laurent Perrier champagne and to the right a similar one with just about every Glenmorangie and Ardbeg whisky you can imagine. Two draught beers are available, Pilsner Urquell and Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, served in branded tankards. On a recent visit we were looking at the whisky list and a friendly and knowledgeable barman insisted (well we didn’t resist much) on giving us a number of tasters leading us to getting stuck into some real gems. My favourite was probably the ultra peaty Ardbeg 10-yr old, I think I can still taste it now. It’s not cheap, £3.75 for Landlord and £4.50 upwards for a whisky, so it won’t be a regular haunt but good for a treat now and again when in need of a bit of self-indulgence.
